The Sophisticated Mess – F/W 2024 Trend Analysis ft. Diesel

This fall will be esoteric- attention to detail during a heeled walk through the urban midnight. Designers entombed the mystique of grunged glamour earlier this year for the upcoming months. WGSN, in the “Collection Review: Women’s Key Trends A/W 24/25”, analyzed the collections for the current season summarizing repeating details- arousing visions of a dispassionate seductress clad in patent indifference. A focus on artistry and craft lends itself to light creams and pinks, earthy pastels softening secret dark tones that base the textile, creating a moody look overall. Garments are professional, but relieved by subtle sensuality. Being versatile in this way deems “wearable” elegance. The use of draping is undeniable, visually simple shapes focus the eye on texture: from suede to hide to knitwear to fur. Each look is a statement, one that whispers hoarsely. Personality within each garment is emphasized with the styling, being deliberate with each pairing. This fall will be subversive, seductive, and bold. 

Based on their Fall/Winter 2024 show, Diesel plans to embody the sophisticated mess of the trendy autumnal consumer. Their F/W collection is sexy and leathery, sleazy and neutral. It heavily features either layers or intentional expanses of skin, making it uniquely adaptable. Expanding on the trends, they have some looks that are busier, bordering closer to streetwear with another interpretation of “bold”. The vampy darkness in their structured garments is indicative of the consumers’ desires- fur accents and linings paired with disruptive basics, ready for a night of mysterious and glamorous mistakes.  

The collection deserves interpretation of limitless possibilities, or as limited as the fashion sense of the customer. So, Diesel may plan on lining the store with poised (though nonchalant) mannequins that wear as many garments as will stack, shoulder or ankle exposed to show desirability in action. In the store, they may have a couple styles in each fall category (light jacket, leather coat, professional pant, tailored jacket, undershirt, midi skirt, etc.) as in their show. This gives the consumer much to choose from, much to pair with one another as intended and otherwise. 

Diesel’s consummate consumer is confidently voguish, wielding an ability to style themselves, to utilize the layerable nature of the collection. Victoria, Diesel’s theoretical ideal doll, is young and a lover of the night. She is fashionable, craving pieces that speak for themselves as designs along with being styleable, able to show taste within what is objectively modish. When the weather finally makes a turn for the brisk, she will sway in her leather L.A.M.B. wedges to the Diesel store, to gaze at a glossy photo of a tired, though well-dressed, twenty-something like herself. The 2024 fall zeitgeist's dream girl.  

Victoria will saunter out of Diesel, not carrying a single shopping bag, but wearing every garment she purchased. A wake of Black Opium turns heads, clicking boots demanding the attention stay on her. Dark lip smudged from the memory of that morning’s kiss, outfit stratified by the anticipation of a poetically filthy night.
